New Year’s Eve shirt! (NL 6149)

Shirt Front

Shirt Back

Thanks to the lovely ladies from the Timmel SWAP thread on Artisan’s Guild, I was able to complete my velvet top in time for New Year’s Eve. :)

This pattern was quite the adventure:

* new fabric - stretch velvet

* new pattern - v-neck (plus, I’ve never made a top…okay, 4th grade home ec)

* new techniques - understitching, twin needle

I think I can safely say now that I ahbor facings - especially the 2+ inch wide ones included in this pattern (and many home patterns?). I believe someone from the thread recommended a Marcy Tilton book for alternatives to facings. Must find this book! The wide facings look SOOO happy hands.

Oooh - and the best part? I made the skirt in this photo! All the seams are flat felled and top stitched, the kick pleat and hem are blind hem stitched. Fits like a dream. I’ve never worn an outfit entirely made by me before! Very cool!

    Your velvet shirt looks great. I too fought a mighty fight with some stretch velour for my first SWAP top, as you can see from the link to my blog. Contratulations. I’m sure you learned a lot. One of the things that I learned is that it’s much easier to deal with velour on a rainy day. Much less static. I’m still struggling with how to properly finish edges in knits in a sophisticated and tidy way.
    Cheers, Betty

    This whole outfit looks soooo great! Your top is beautiful, and of course you already know that I covet your skirt. I hope you had a great New Year’s Eve! I managed to get the second chenille scarf done this morning and then we found out that Sister Ruthie wasn’t coming! Ah well, I will mail it to her. Mrs. Arnoldy loved hers :)
